Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2, 2026

Existential Software Company, LLC ("we", "our", or "us") operates Aureo, a desktop application for music production setup management. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our application.

Summary

  • Aureo is a local-first application — your project data stays on your device.
  • We collect minimal telemetry to fix bugs and improve the app (fully opt-in).
  • We never sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing.
  • You have full control over data collection through in-app settings.

Data We Collect

Aureo collects three types of optional telemetry data. Each can be independently enabled or disabled in Settings > Privacy.

1. Error Reporting

When enabled, we collect crash reports via Sentry.

May include

  • Error messages & stack traces
  • App version & OS

Never includes

  • Project files or IP addresses
  • Audio content

2. Usage Analytics

Anonymous usage data via Aptabase.

May include

  • Feature usage patterns
  • Session duration (aggregated)

Never includes

  • Personal identifiers
  • Cookies or trackers

3. Catalog Improvement

Anonymized data about unmatched plugins to help us expand our database.

May include

  • Plugin bundle IDs & formats
  • Manufacturer name

Never includes

  • User display names
  • Local file paths

When a plugin cannot be identified, Aureo may send the technical metadata (Bundle ID/Format) to our server to improve our central database. This data is processed as a one-time look-up and is not linked to your project files or identity.

Legal Basis for Processing

For users in the EEA or UK, we process data based on:

  • Consent: For all telemetry and analytics (opt-in only).
  • Legitimate Interests: For error monitoring to ensure app stability.

Data Storage & Retention

Your production data is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your projects. For telemetry data, we observe the following retention periods:

  • Error Reports: Deleted after 90 days.
  • Usage Analytics: Individual event data is purged after 14 months.
  • Catalog Data: Retained until the plugin is successfully cataloged.

International Data Transfers

Existential Software Company, LLC is based in the United States. Telemetry data may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. We ensure our partners (Sentry and Aptabase) maintain appropriate safeguards and compliance standards.

Do Not Track

Aureo respects Do Not Track (DNT) signals. If your system has DNT enabled, all telemetry is automatically disabled regardless of in-app settings.

Website

This privacy policy primarily covers the Aureo desktop application. Our website (aureo.audio) operates separately with minimal data collection:

  • No marketing cookies: We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on our website.
  • Essential hosting: Our hosting provider may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, request times) for security and stability purposes. These logs are not used for tracking and are automatically purged.
  • No third-party analytics: We do not use Google Analytics or similar services on our website.

Your Rights

  • Disable telemetry at any time via Settings > Privacy.
  • Request a copy of the de-identified data associated with your device.
  • Request deletion of your telemetry data.

Contact us at legal@aureo.audio to exercise these rights.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We will notify you of changes by updating the date above and, where feasible, providing an in-app notification.
