  • Ashdown Engineering

For those wishing to configure their own rack-mounting bass rigs, the ABM-RPM-1 EVO II preamp puts all the ABM facilities in a convenient rack-mounting package. Three rotary tone controls provide 20dB of cut and boost at 60Hz, 660Hz and 5kHz, supplemented by two pairs of sliders giving 15dB cut and boost at 180Hz, 340Hz, 1.3kHz and 2.6kHz, with the EQ switchable in/out and flat/shaped by footswitch. A single input is switchable for passive and active instruments and blends solid state and dual triode tube preamp stages, footswitchable for clean, warm and overdriven tones. A footswitchable sub-harmonic generator tracks the main signal an octave lower, and a high-precision variable crossover (35Hz to 160Hz) enables bi-amped systems. Connections include a balanced DI out with pre/post EQ switching, a sub-bass output, a tuner output, an FX loop and a line input.

  • ABM-RPM-GZR
    Ashdown Engineering

The ABM-RPM-GZR is a custom bass preamplifier designed and built for Geezer Butler and Black Sabbath's farewell 'The End Tour'. Based on an original JE preamp, its two-way crossover was reworked into a custom transformer-derived crossover able to feed four outputs, driving two Ashdown APM-1000 power amps for the full-range signal into his 4x12 cabinets and a matching pair for the low-pass signal into his 2x15 cabinets. The onboard JJ ECC83/12AX7 tube was run at higher current for extra grit and harmonic distortion. It carries the standard ABM tone set (three rotary controls plus two pairs of EQ sliders, switchable in/out and flat/shaped by footswitch), a blended solid-state and dual-triode tube preamp, a footswitchable sub-harmonic generator, a balanced DI out, sub, tuner and FX loop connections, and a variable crossover for bi-amped rigs. Note: this was a one-off custom-shop build and is not for sale.

  • Ashdown Engineering

For those wishing to configure their own rack-mounting bass rigs, the ABM-RPM-JE preamp puts all the ABM facilities in a convenient rack-mounting package. Three rotary tone controls give 20dB of cut and boost at 60Hz, 660Hz and 5kHz, supplemented by two pairs of sliders (15dB at 180Hz, 340Hz, 1.3kHz and 2.6kHz), with the EQ switchable in/out and flat/shaped by footswitch. A single input is switchable for passive and active instruments and blends solid-state and dual-triode tube preamp stages, footswitchable for clean, warm and overdriven tones. A footswitchable sub-harmonic generator tracks the signal an octave lower, and a variable crossover (35Hz to 160Hz) enables bi-amped systems. Connections include a balanced DI out with pre/post EQ switching, a sub-bass output, a tuner output, an FX loop and a line input.

    Ashdown Engineering

It carries a dual switchable active EQ (each side with Bass, Lo-Mid and Hi-Mid, plus a shared Treble), a switchable Doom drive with its own Doom Volume, and dual VU meters for input and output monitoring. A transformer-isolated balanced DI output sends the sculpted signal to front of house or a line input, and the pedal is ruggedly built for stage and studio.

  • Norman Watt-Roy Pre-DI
    Ashdown Engineering

A special-edition version of Ashdown's OriginAL valve-driven bass preamp DI pedal, developed with bass legend Norman Watt-Roy. The pedal shapes and optimises the bass signal before the power stage, pairing crystal-clear cleans with a foot-switchable 12AX7 valve overdrive. A 5-band EQ (bass, low-mid, middle, hi-mid, treble) plus Drive Gain and Drive Level controls dial in anything from subtle valve grit to full bass overdrive. A -3dB pad matches high- or low-output instruments, an output control sets preamp volume, a rear DI out feeds the house post EQ/drive, and a ground lift reduces noise across two signal paths. A headphone socket allows silent practice and a line input lets you jam along to tracks. Strictly limited to a run of 50 units, each numbered 1-50 and hand-signed by Norman, with an anodised aluminium front panel finished in Shoreline Gold to match his 1962 Fender Jazz Bass.

  • Microphone Preamplifier 502
    MIDAS

    Discontinued

The MICROPHONE PREAMPLIFIER 502 brings the award-winning Midas microphone preamp to the 500 Series format, available as an add-on to any mobile or recording system when used with the LEGEND L10, L6, or other standard 500 Series rackmount chassis. Considered by leading live sound and recording engineers as the very essence of the famous Midas sound, the preamp has been upgraded with four discrete ultra low noise input transistors and retains the soft clipping characteristic that provides crystal-clear audiophile reproduction with just the right amount of harmonics. The 502 also honours the legacy of the XL4 console by bringing back its swept low and high pass filters. A 12-position rotary switch sets gain from 0 to +60 dB in 5 dB increments, while a fully variable output trim potentiometer adds another ±20 dB of range for up to +80 dB of total gain. The input stage accepts signal levels up to +24 dBu without requiring a pad. Outputs are electronically balanced by default, with a switchable transformer-balanced output (TX) for additional tonal character.

The MICROPHONE PREAMPLIFIER 502 V2 is the award-winning Midas microphone preamp delivered as a 500 Series add-on module for mobile or recording systems, particularly designed for use with the LEGEND L10 or L6 500 Series Rackmount Chassis. The V2 iteration upgrades the original 502 with four discrete ultra low-noise input transistors, retaining the legendary Midas sound while extending dynamic range. The input stage accepts signal levels up to +24 dBu with soft clipping, gain is set via a 12-position rotary switch from 0 to +60 dB in 5 dB increments, and a ±20 dB output trim potentiometer brings total maximum gain to +80 dB. Twin balanced outputs (main and an auxiliary TX output) feed independent destinations, with illuminated push-button switches handling low-pass and high-pass filter engagement, phase reverse, 48 V phantom power, and TX output routing. Variable low-pass (1 kHz–40 kHz, -3 dB) and high-pass (10 Hz–400 Hz, -3 dB) filters provide on-module shaping, and 11-segment rotary LED meters monitor input and output levels.
